However, thanks to current diving and underwater technologies, the oceans can be explored professionally like never before. In the past ten years, new findings and discoveries have almost turned our knowledge of the world's oceans upside down. The six-part series "Der Blaue Planet" is therefore a project of superlatives that takes the audience on an impressive journey through the world's oceans. During a filming period of more than three years, the teams went on 125 expeditions, visited 39 countries, and filmed on every continent and in every ocean. The film crews spent more than 6,000 hours on dives and filmed virtually every corner from the coasts known to us to the deep sea. Thanks to these efforts, passion, and commitment, viewers owe a film series that brings them closer to some of the most extraordinary marine creatures than ever before and provides insight into magical worlds. How do you tell emotional stories about cold fish, crabs, or bristle worms? The music by Hollywood legend Hans Zimmer and the storytelling by Axel Milberg in the German version contribute significantly to this. And incidentally, "Der Blaue Planet" presents impressive stories that deal with the current problems of our oceans, from entire sections of the sea full of plastic to the devastating coral bleaching of past years, to the far-reaching consequences of warming oceans. The series makes it clear why the health of our seas concerns us all. Exceptionally filmed and told, the six-part series "Der Blaue Planet" offers true experiential television. "Der Blaue Planet" is a co-production by BBC and WDR for Das Erste. Other participating ARD partners are BR, NDR, and SWR
