FC Kastanie 08 (11th season, 29th place in the Ewigen Tabelle)

Until the year before last, FC Kastanie 08 was a talented yet undisciplined bunch. Not once did the captain threaten to take drastic action and deregister the team if no response was received to begging emails regarding referee appointments, rescheduling options, etc. Those days are long gone, even if one or two rivals might regret it. The decisive factor for the breakthrough was the point deductions in 2012/II due to a missed match date, which caused them to fall from the play-off spots. Feeling this "punishment" was deeply unfair, they were on the verge of giving up but then swore to be more disciplined and stronger than ever before. This was impressively achieved. Following the vow from Stockum came an incredible year 2013, in which they fully took off; that is probably the only way to describe it. The Brown-Whites swept both championships, something last achieved by the Globes in 2007. In 2013, they won 18 out of 21 official matches - with a gigantic goal difference of +47 (97:50 goals). Only three times did they not leave the pitch as winners after regular play. The opponent in those cases was always the same: Null Null Classic 69! Strangely, 00 is still the declared favorite opponent of the Galactics. Crazy world! On 15.6.2013, they suffered a heavy 1:5 defeat. A loss that only had statistical value, as Kastanie was already set as the group leader. However, Kastanie was able to overcome 00 in the Super Bowl semi-final 2013/I and in the cup quarter-final, not after seventy minutes, but after extra time or a penalty shootout. Kastanie's dominance is also reflected in the scoring charts. At times in the autumn, there was an internal three-way fight for the Golden Boot, which the unofficial Player of the Year 2013, Mark Aengevelt, eventually won relatively clearly with 17 goals. Fortunately for Aengevelt, teammate Sebastian Jeremias (13 goals) did not know that the goal records of NSA trainees are kept, otherwise it would have been close for him. Because the native of Dortmund admitted in admirable openness his ignorance and that he still had room for improvement: "Great that someone takes the time to make such an evaluation. If I had known beforehand, I would have scored more goals!" In the shadow of the two key performers of the double champions, Kevin Maar (13) joined to form a top-scoring trio. Kevin belongs more to the species of finishers, while Jeremias tends to score with hard long-range shots and Aengevelt on counter-attacks. From occasionally snapping part-time monsters, they became all-consuming full-time monsters. A - relatively speaking - league newcomer thus "on Top of the World." Is that actually allowed, asks one LoLi traditionalist or another, and how do you get rid of them? Similar to Spain, the question arises for the team whether, after winning nothing in the first few years and then winning double, they will be able to win a third title in a row or whether complacency and satisfaction will set in. The majority of the expert world (incorrectly) did not trust Spain to do it, and opinions are divided on Kastanie as well. If the opponents manage to crack their genetic code, the Lohausenliga will crown a new champion on 28.06.2014. Otherwise, the league will have to slowly adjust to "German conditions" and the answer to the question of the next champion will regularly be: "Kastanie, who else?" Although, both Super Bowl finals could have been lost with a bit of bad luck. Especially if one thinks back to just before Christmas when the veterans of Flamingo were already leading 3:1. Even Mark Aengevelt admitted: "The final was a close story. But through our will, we win the games. Against Flamingo I was not really in good form, but a champion is a champion." But, and here he also gives a small insight into what makes the Kastanien so strong, Mark immediately takes away the hope of the competition that K08 might let up: "Our success secret is that we have grown together as a team. That of course took a little time after the upheaval with many new faces, and now we have been benefiting for a year from the fact that we get along very well privately, regardless of age, off the pitch. That was the last kick we needed to also appear as a unit on the pitch. Not much has changed for me, we are more well-oiled as a team and everyone benefits from that. That we are all football crazy, like the rest of the LoLi, is nothing special." Once in a bubbly mood, the good Mark even revealed the long-kept secret of his turbo throws-ins: "I played water polo professionally for 15 years, unfortunately I currently cannot build up the necessary swimming fitness to compete at the top level again, but I am still in the club. Hence the long throws-ins." Is it really all sunshine in the land of blooming Kastanien? A small drop of melancholy is discovered when one scratches a little at the surface, because the victory euphoria is followed by the moving euphoria: Kevin Maar, who comes from the Bergisches Land, moved to Wuppertal, from where he will continue to travel to the games. Joker Till Schlumberger was relocated - typical Kastanie - to Siegen, and the bear-strong defender Sven Marc Egbers took the big leap over the Taunus and will henceforth have to look for his teammates in Frankfurt. It will therefore be up to the only real newcomer in the squad, Philip Günkel, whether the gaps caused by the possible departure of Schlumberger and Egbers can be closed. There are easier tasks. However, Günkel comes from the "talent factory" L'Oréal Deutschland, which has also conjured up Sebastian Jeremias and Youss Gaye. Not a bad business card, especially since L'Oréal Deutschland will soon be competing again in the World Cup of the cosmetics industry. At this tournament, which is taking place in Paris this time, the individual L'Oréal branches play in their national colors. Such an appearance should not exactly weaken the self-confidence of the three. Back to the key figures of the Kastanie team: Here, Mark Aengevelt (29) is to be named first. The best player of the year 2013 and the friends he recruited have provided flair and glamour and ultimately also success since they joined the then-average team 3-4 years ago and gradually took command on the pitch. Aengevelt has recently even clearly emerged from the long shadow of Sebastian Jeremias, who was initially the decisive playmaker. Today it is like this: It is almost irrelevant who plays next to Aengevelt and Jeremias, the two decide the games with their goals and assists. Rarely a match in which they do not score. They are the outstanding figures. They have given the league priority level 1 and consequently miss almost no match, unless New York calls, but that does not happen every month. Even Jeremias's holiday on Sylt was sacrificed overnight for the final 2013/I. His girlfriend was not exactly amused about it. In the end, it was the right decision, because "Sebi" could break the stubborn resistance of the Ackerfreunde with the decisive 1:0. But the dominance of the two late-twentysomethings does not mean that the "Old Ones" have lost influence and importance. A look at the composition of the last semi-final is enough to conclude that in the successful teams Kastanie, Globes, Flamingo and Abwärts, the mix of old and young is right. The oldies provide perfect organization and the young ones drive - supported by some veterans. A duckling that is long since a beautiful swan, whose current flight (an end is not in sight here) is to be wished for, but sometimes is enough. But sometime will not be tomorrow and not the day after tomorrow. The season start was successful, the automatism works, the individual quality is unmatched, and if Mark Aengevelt's wild "Spiegel" times (referring to the old town pub) do not return or the team switches to "lächelt" mode, the path to the summer title only leads via FC Kastanie. Unless the co-favorites crack Kastanie's genetic code and prevent their successful counter-tactics. But knowing how a team plays is not equivalent to the ability to prevent this success recipe if it is perfected. In the 2011 preview, it was mistakenly prophesied that no Bunga-Bunga parties should be expected from the then little sparkling troupe. But the players, who mysteriously almost all come from Westphalia, can really let loose off the pitch as well. But only when there is really something to celebrate. Maybe that is even the true success secret of the men of Dominic Härte."
